Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignon

Ryan and I love steaks. But what we don't love is how much it costs to eat them at a restaurant! So we found the little bacon-wrapped filet mignons at Publix and have come to love them.

Look for something like this in the meat section. You can get 2 good-sized filets for about $5--try to find that at your favorite restaurant!

First, heat your oven to 375F and set your favorite oven-proof heavy-bottomed skillet to high. Then, take your filets out of the package and pat them dry with a paper towel. Season one side of the filets with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Don't be shy with the seasonings because you want your steaks to be flavorful, not boring.

After the pan is super hot, put the seasoned side of your filet down in the pan. You can add a little Pam for Grilling to the pan before adding your steaks to prevent sticking, but try to avoid adding olive oil, or else your kitchen will get super smokey.

While the already-seasoned side is cooking, season the other side with salt, pepper and garlic pepper. After a few minutes, the first side should be caramelized. It's okay if it looks a little dark.

Flip it over, and place the entire pan into the oven. Cook for 10-15 minutes, depending on how you like your steak cooked. Again, you can always use a meat thermometer and this handy dandy website to see if your steaks are done to your likeness. Just like when we made the pork tenderloin, after your steaks are done, let them rest for 10 minutes before serving them.

Add your homemade broccoli-mashed potatoes, and you have a fancy, steakhouse worthy meal, for $10 MAX:)
